Donald Trump, the newly elected U.S. President, has appointed Kashyap “Kash” Patel as the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Director, making him the second Indian-American in his administration. Hailing Patel as a sharp legal expert and investigator, Trump credited him with uncovering corruption and safeguarding justice. Patel, a key figure in Trump’s prior presidency, previously served as Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense.
The rise of Indian-Americans in U.S. politics has been remarkable, with figures like Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Usha Vance representing Republicans, while Kamala Harris remains a Democratic leader. Patel, known for his unwavering support for Trump, has been suggested for the CIA Director post, which requires Senate approval. If not confirmed, he may join the National Security Council.
Patel has critiqued Western media for selective coverage of India’s Ram Temple consecration, arguing that historical context is often ignored. He believes Washington elites aim to portray Trump and Indian PM Narendra Modi similarly, fostering opposition to both.
Trump has actively courted Hindu-American support, condemning attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh and denouncing policies like California’s caste bill, which some see as unfair. He lauded Modi as a “remarkable leader” and reaffirmed U.S.-India cooperation, particularly in technology and security.
Patel asserts that Trump’s leadership is unpredictable yet strategic, strengthening military alliances, countering China, and prioritizing fair trade. He views the justice system as biased against conservatives, reinforcing Trump’s call for reform.
