Playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy, renowned for her iconic Bollywood hits, revealed that her musical journey has evolved beyond the confines of the Hindi film industry. Speaking about her experience with the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival, Krishnamurthy emphasized how the festival has expanded her musical horizons. “Bollywood has given me everything, but the opportunity to explore different forms of music, like a tilana, has kept me learning,” she said. The festival, which is close to her heart, is a platform that has helped her stay connected to her roots while constantly pushing her to explore new musical realms.

Her husband, violin maestro L Subramaniam, and the festival’s unique offerings have played a significant role in this musical evolution. As part of the festival’s 33rd edition, a free concert will be held at Chowdiah Hall in Bengaluru on January 4. The spotlight this year is on Muhammad Yildirir, the world’s fastest violinist, known for breaking records with his astonishing speed in playing the famous Flight of the Bumblebee.

This year’s festival also marks the 40th anniversary of Subramaniam’s influential music album Conversation, a collaboration with jazz violin legend Stéphane Grappelli. Celebrating this milestone, the concert aptly named Conversation will bring together diverse musical traditions. For Krishnamurthy, these experiences have provided a unique blend of classical and contemporary influences, keeping her grounded yet open to the world of music.
