Bharathiar University’s Department of Communication and Media Studies in Coimbatore hosted a grand celebration for World Photography Day, teaming up with the Coimbatore Press Club (CPC), Canon, and Abhinayalaya Creative Studio.
The two-day event, held on Tuesday and Wednesday, featured a captivating photo exhibition themed ‘Beauty of Coimbatore’. Over 300 striking images taken by photojournalists from across the district were on display, highlighting the region’s natural charm and urban life. A special wildlife photography segment showcased the work of A. Senthilkumar and photography students from the department.
The exhibition was formally opened by University Registrar R. Rajavel. The event drew more than 2,000 visitors, ranging from students to photography enthusiasts and members of the general public.
As part of the festivities, photography contests were organized for both school and college students. The winners received awards and certificates in a ceremony held on Wednesday.
The valedictory function featured addresses by M. Sri Hari, Acting Head of the Department; T. Vijay, chief photojournalist with Vikatan Group and CPC treasurer; J. Jackson of Times of India and CPC vice-president; Dinakaran photojournalist T. Mohanraj; and Mr. Senthilkumar himself.
The event was made possible with support from Tamil Dental Care, CTech IT Institution, and Orange Bakes, adding a local flavor to the university’s vibrant celebration of visual storytelling.
