London: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his bilateral engagements in Britain on Wednesday, April 18, with a meeting with his British counterpart Theresa May during the course of which they discussed the bilateral relationship after Britain’s exit from the European Union (EU).

“The two leaders had wide-ranging talks on redefining and infusing new energy into our bilateral engagement post-Brexit,” Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted following the meeting at 10, Downing Street.

Modi arrived here on Tuesday night from Sweden on the second leg of his three-nation Europe tour that will also see him visiting Germany.

In a special gesture, British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson received him at the airport.

This is his second official visit to Britain after his visit in November 20-15. May visited India in November 2016, her first visit outside the EU after assuming office.

Later on Wednesday, Modi is scheduled to attend a number of events, including a meeting of Indian and British CEOs and a live interaction with the diaspora.

The Indian leader will also attend this year’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) here on April 19-20.
