In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Yelahanka police have arrested a 44-year-old Nigerian national and seized 2 kg of MDMA drugs valued at approximately Rs 2 crore from his possession.
Drug peddling under business cover
The accused, identified as Samuel Ikenna, had been operating under the guise of a clothing business. According to police, he had arrived in India on a business visa in 2012 and was initially engaged in garment trade activities in Delhi and Mumbai. He later shifted to Bengaluru last year, where he allegedly expanded his illegal operations.
Investigations revealed that Ikenna continued his garment business as a front while actively engaging in drug peddling. Police sources stated that he procured MDMA from areas near Bannerghatta and distributed it across the city.
Targeting students raises concern
Authorities said the accused primarily targeted hostel students, raising serious concerns about the accessibility of narcotics among youth. Acting on a specific tip-off, a police team tracked and apprehended him when he had arrived to sell MDMA to students.
The seizure of such a large quantity of synthetic drugs highlights the growing challenge faced by law enforcement agencies in curbing narcotics circulation in urban areas.
Ongoing investigation
Yelahanka police have registered a case and initiated further investigation to trace the supply chain and identify other individuals involved in the network. Officials are also examining possible interstate links, given the accused’s previous presence in multiple cities.
The case underscores the importance of timely intelligence and coordinated police action in tackling drug-related crimes, particularly those targeting vulnerable sections such as students.
