Social media has become the go-to means of spreading information. It is used by private individuals, corporates and even governments. However, if you are not careful, you could end up embarrassing yourself in front of a rather large audience like the provincial government of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa did recently.
During a live stream of their meeting on Facebook, the cat filter was accidentally turned on, resulting in pink cat ears and whiskers being added to the ministers. Soon after, a user pointed out the gaffe to the page administrators and asked them to turn it off. “Filter hata lo. Banda billi bana hua hai (Remove the filter, the man has been turned into a cat),” a user wrote on the live chat.
While the administrators quickly turned off the filter, it was a little too late. The hilarious slip-up left netizens in splits and the video went viral on Twitter.
Users took screenshots of the video and added their own captions to them, turning it into a kind of meme and joke contest.
Soon #BandaBilliBanaHuaHai was trending on Twitter.
Imran Khan’s party PTI, later issued a clarification on Twitter regarding the press briefing held by KP’s Information Minister Shoukat Yousafzai. It informed that a probe was conducted into the matter and found that the incident was a result of “a human error” by one of their “hard working volunteer”. They also ensured that measures have been taken to avoid such incidents in the future.
