Pakistan has called for the involvement of Russia, China, and other international players in investigating the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, on April 22. The attack, claimed by the Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has sparked a tense standoff between India and Pakistan.

In an interview with Russia’s RIA Novosti, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif suggested that an international team, including Russia and China, could investigate whether India’s claims about the perpetrators are truthful. He emphasized the need for concrete evidence to prove Pakistan’s involvement, dismissing India’s accusations as baseless.

Meanwhile, Pakistani officials have made controversial statements about the attack. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar referred to the attackers as “freedom fighters,” a remark condemned for downplaying the terrorist nature of the attack. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also raised doubts, suggesting the incident could be a “false flag operation” by India, a claim that has been criticized for inconsistency.

Analysts point out the contradiction in Pakistan’s official stance, calling it an attempt to obscure possible involvement in the attack.
