Anxiety and uncertainty have gripped a family in Hirekodige village of Koppa taluk after their son, Nishchit, reportedly went missing in Iran amid escalating tensions in West Asia.
Nishchit, who works in the merchant navy, had travelled to Iran as part of his professional assignment. According to his parents, the family last spoke with him about eight days ago. During the conversation, he had informed them that he was planning to travel onward to Kuwait. However, since then, all attempts to contact him have failed, leaving the family deeply worried about his safety.
Family desperately awaiting contact
Nishchit’s parents say they have repeatedly tried reaching him over the past several days, but his phone remains switched off or unreachable. The sudden silence has caused immense distress for the family, who fear that the ongoing conflict in the region may have disrupted communications or travel.
Relatives and neighbours in the village have gathered at the family home to offer support, while the parents continue to wait anxiously for any information about their son’s whereabouts.
The family has appealed to the Government of India and concerned authorities to trace Nishchit and help ensure his safe return to India.
Conflict disrupts travel and communication
The situation comes amid heightened hostilities in West Asia following recent military developments involving Iran and the United States–Israel alliance. The conflict has disrupted airspace, shipping routes and communication networks across the region, leaving many travellers and workers stranded.
Reports suggest that several Indians working across Gulf nations are facing travel disruptions due to suspended flights and restricted airspace. Maritime operations have also been affected in parts of the region, raising concerns for seafarers and merchant navy personnel working in nearby waters.
As the conflict continues to create uncertainty, Nishchit’s family remains hopeful that authorities will soon establish contact with him and confirm his safety.
