One police officer was killed and 24 others injured after multiple explosive devices detonated around midnight in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, authorities said.

According to the National Police of Ukraine, preliminary findings suggest that improvised explosive devices were used in the incident.

Explosions during patrol response

Police said the first explosion occurred after a patrol crew arrived at the scene of a suspected shop break-in. A second explosion followed shortly afterwards.

Emergency services rushed to the area, and the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials have not yet disclosed the condition of those wounded.

Authorities term it ‘terrorist act’

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi described the incident as a terrorist act and extended condolences to the family of the slain officer.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a detailed investigation. Forensic teams are examining the site to determine the nature of the devices and identify those responsible.

Lviv, located in western Ukraine, has been relatively less affected compared to frontline regions, making the incident particularly alarming for residents.

Further updates are awaited as authorities continue their probe.
