BBC Royal Correspondent Michael Cole believes that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could have been a valuable asset to the royal family if they had remained, particularly with their activism on global issues.

Cole, speaking on GB News, reflected on the potential impact the Sussexes could have had if they had stayed within the royal fold. He argued that Meghan Markle, in particular, could have used her platform more effectively if she had embraced the broader stage offered by Buckingham Palace, rather than relocating to Canada and then to the United States.

Cole also speculated on Meghan Markle’s future, suggesting she might turn to U.S. politics. He pointed out that America could benefit from a “talented and good-looking candidate” like Meghan on the Democratic ticket, drawing parallels with actors-turned-politicians such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan, who both achieved significant political success in California.

“At one stage, Meghan wanted to work for the State Department and even did a stint in Buenos Aires at the embassy,” Cole said. “Is she preparing for something else?” He mused that Meghan’s career trajectory, which has moved from acting to royal duties, might now be aiming towards a political role.

Despite their high-profile status and intentions, Harry and Meghan faced criticism for their recent tour of Colombia, which some deemed “quasi-royal” given their current non-royal status. Cole noted that while the tour was met with enthusiasm and appeared successful from the Sussexes’ perspective, it was not without controversy.

“The Sussexes will be reflecting on the semi-royal tour of Colombia and counting it a success,” Cole commented. He acknowledged that Meghan’s public appearances were marked by her “permanent smile” and stylish outfits, while Harry appeared more reserved. However, Cole observed that Harry looked more content during engagements with children, veterans, and at the Invictus Games, which he founded.

Michael Cole’s commentary highlights the contrasting paths of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, from potential contributions to the royal family to their current independent endeavors. Their recent activities, including the Colombia tour, reflect their continued commitment to global issues despite ongoing criticism and debate about their royal departure.
