Qantas Airways is on the verge of revolutionizing long-haul travel with its bold “Project Sunrise,” scheduled for launch in 2027. This initiative will introduce the longest non-stop commercial flights, directly linking Sydney to London and New York. The Sydney-London route, covering approximately 17,800 kilometers, is expected to take around 20 hours, setting a new record in aviation.

Central to Project Sunrise is the Airbus A350-1000, designed specifically for ultra-long-haul flights. Each aircraft will carry 238 passengers across four classes—First, Business, Premium Economy, and Economy—with premium seating occupying over 40% of the cabin to ensure added comfort.

First-class suites will feature private cabins, complete with a 32-inch screen, closet, recliner chair, and a bed. Premium Economy and Economy passengers will enjoy additional legroom and ergonomic seating, while Business class will offer lay-flat mattresses with privacy walls. Additionally, a “Wellbeing Zone” will be available, designed to combat jet lag by encouraging movement, stretching, and offering refreshing options.

Qantas has partnered with experts from the University of Sydney’s Charles Perkins Centre to develop techniques to reduce jet lag, including special cabin lighting, tryptophan-rich meals, and in-flight workouts. The airline also plans to use fuel-efficient aircraft and explore sustainable aviation fuel options to reduce the environmental impact.

Although ticket prices will likely be premium, Project Sunrise promises a transformative travel experience, offering faster, more comfortable journeys between continents.
