Police in Rampur have registered an FIR against a woman for allegedly securing a government teaching job by concealing her Pakistani nationality and using forged documents, officials said on Thursday.
The case was registered at Azim Nagar Police Station following a complaint from the Basic Education Department after an internal inquiry.
Allegations and charges
Additional Superintendent of Police Anurag Singh said the accused, Mahira Akhtar, also known as Farzana, allegedly obtained employment by projecting herself as an Indian citizen despite being a Pakistani national.
“She worked as a teacher at a primary school in Kumhariya village. The FIR has been registered under sections 318(4), 336, 338 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for cheating and forgery,” Singh said. Police allege she used a fake residence certificate to secure the job.
Background details
According to investigators, the woman married a Pakistani national in 1979 and subsequently acquired Pakistani citizenship. After her divorce, she allegedly returned to India on a Pakistani passport and married a local resident around 1985. Around the same period, she is accused of taking up employment in the Basic Education Department by claiming Indian citizenship.
Following the discovery of her nationality during the departmental probe, she was first suspended and later dismissed from service.
Probe underway
Police said the FIR was lodged based on the department’s report. The investigation is ongoing, evidence is being collected, and no arrests have been made so far.
