A unique spherical egg was sold for £200 (around ₹21,500) at a charity auction in the UK, making headlines as a rare find.
The perfectly round egg was discovered by an unnamed woman in Ayr, Scotland, when she found it in a box from her local Asda supermarket. She later sold it to Ed Pownall, a man from Berkshire, for £150. Pownall, who bought the egg on a whim after enjoying a few drinks, subsequently donated it to the Iuventas Foundation, a charity focused on mentoring young people. Pownall described his purchase as “money well spent.”
Initially, the Iuventas Foundation thought the donation was a joke, but they later decided to auction off the egg to raise funds. The sale was part of an auction that raised a total of £5,000 for the charity. Roz Rapp, a mentor at the foundation, expressed her excitement, saying the funds will help them continue their vital work supporting young people dealing with mental health challenges.
The egg, described as a “one-in-a-billion” find, was listed at the Thomson Roddick Callan auction house, where it was highlighted as an incredibly rare discovery. According to experts, perfectly round eggs are an extremely rare phenomenon.
The money from the auction will be used to support youths aged 13-25 struggling with mental health issues, allowing the charity to expand its services.
