A Russian tourist, identified as Invanov, was fined 500 baht (about $15) by Pattaya police on Tuesday for driving a Toyota Vios decorated with flashing Christmas lights. The incident occurred on Sukhumvit Road near Chaiyaphruek Intersection in Bang Lamung district.

Invanov, 25, was reportedly unaware that such festive vehicle decorations were illegal in Thailand. He explained that he had decorated his car with lights to create a festive atmosphere, inspired by his friends in Bangkok. However, local police clarified that adding flashing lights to a vehicle without permission is prohibited under Thai law.

Police emphasized the potential dangers of such decorations, warning that they could cause confusion or obstruct visibility for other drivers. The act violates sections 12 and 60 of the Motor Vehicle Act of 1979 and can result in fines up to 2,000 baht.

Authorities have urged the public not to adorn their vehicles with lights or items like fake reindeer antlers, to avoid similar fines and ensure road safety.
