Sam Altman Applauds India’s AI Boom, Sparks Online Curiosity
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has lauded India’s rapid AI adoption and creative innovation, stating that the country is outpacing the world in integrating artificial intelligence across industries.
Taking to X, Altman expressed his admiration, writing, “What’s happening with AI adoption in India right now is amazing to watch. We love to see the explosion of creativity—India is outpacing the world.”
While many welcomed the praise, some users questioned the sudden appreciation. A user humorously asked, “Why such India love suddenly senpai?” while another wondered about the shift from his 2023 statement calling India’s AI prospects ‘Totally Hopeless’ to celebrating its “explosion of creativity” in 2025.
Adding to the buzz, Altman later posted an anime-style image of himself as an Indian cricketer, further fueling speculation. This followed his resharing of a Studio Ghibli-style post by MyGov India, featuring PM Narendra Modi with global leaders and visiting the Ram Lalla temple.
Altman had previously acknowledged India as OpenAI’s second-largest market, urging the country to take a leadership role in AI. He also clarified that his past remarks about India’s ability to develop large language models (LLMs) were misinterpreted.
With global tech leaders spotlighting India, is it just AI innovation—or something more?
