Rasuwa: A six-year-old girl was rescued alive from beneath thick mud and debris in Nepal’s flood-hit Rasuwa district on Friday evening, three days after devastating floodwaters swept through the region.
The dramatic rescue in Timure village offered a rare moment of hope as emergency teams continued searching through the destruction for survivors.
Faint cries lead rescuers to trapped girl
Personnel from Nepal’s Armed Police Force (APF) were searching for survivors when they heard faint cries coming from beneath the soil.
The rescuers immediately began digging through the thick mud and debris and eventually located the girl and pulled her out safely.
The girl, identified as Manisha Magar, was initially taken to the APF Border Outpost in Timure, where she received medical attention.
Bad weather delays emergency airlift
Her condition later deteriorated, prompting authorities to arrange an urgent airlift to Kathmandu for specialised treatment.
However, bad weather and poor visibility delayed the helicopter flight. Rescuers continued to keep her stable until Saturday afternoon, when weather conditions improved enough for the helicopter to take her to a hospital in Kathmandu.
She is now receiving specialist medical treatment and remains under close observation.
Rescue brings hope amid devastation
Footage of the dramatic rescue was widely shared on social media, with many people praising the APF personnel for continuing their search despite difficult conditions.
The rescue has also prompted efforts to trace the girl’s family and relatives. Authorities and members of the public are seeking information that could help reunite Manisha with her family.
