A routine flight training session in Argentina turned into a tragic ordeal after a flight instructor allegedly jumped from a moving aircraft, leaving his student to land the plane alone.
The incident occurred on Saturday near Toledo, Argentina, involving a Cessna 150 training aircraft carrying 42-year-old instructor Leandro Andrés Bertazzo and his 22-year-old student, identified as Rosario.
Instructor reportedly gave final instruction
According to reports, Bertazzo unfastened his seatbelt, removed his headset and, before opening the aircraft door, reportedly told his student, “You know what you have to do, carry on.”
He then allegedly jumped from the aircraft.
Rosario was left alone at the controls, facing both the challenge of flying the aircraft and coping with the shock of the incident.
Student lands aircraft safely
Despite the traumatic circumstances, the student pilot remained composed and successfully navigated the aircraft back to the airport, completing a safe landing without suffering injuries or causing damage to the plane.
Her calm response has been widely praised as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Authorities said Bertazzo had shown no apparent signs of distress before the incident and had reportedly completed another routine training flight earlier the same day.
