Amid the devastating fire tragedy in Delhi’s Palam that claimed nine lives, one surviving family member continues to battle for recovery—unaware of the heartbreaking loss that has shattered his family.

Survivor in ICU, still unaware of tragedy

Sachin, one of the youngest surviving members of the family, is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at Safdarjung Hospital. Doctors confirmed that he sustained severe burn injuries while attempting to escape the blaze.

Despite being conscious and responsive, Sachin has not been informed about the deaths of his family members, as his condition remains critical.

First to notice fire, tried to save others

According to neighbours, Sachin was the first to detect the fire early in the morning. In a desperate attempt to help, he tried to open gates and find an escape route, suffering burns to his hands, face, and legs.

Eyewitnesses said he attempted to reach the roof but was hindered by thick smoke that rapidly filled the building, preventing many from escaping.

Severe injuries, under close observation

Medical officials stated that Sachin is in significant pain and has been kept under strict observation for at least 36 hours. He remains on oxygen support, with injuries affecting multiple parts of his body.

Doctors are closely monitoring his condition as he continues to fight for recovery.

Neighbours step in during crisis

Neighbours played a crucial role in rushing Sachin to the hospital. Many described the intensity of the fire as overwhelming, with thick smoke visible even from a nearby flyover.

They also confirmed that, for now, they have chosen not to reveal the tragic loss to him, prioritising his immediate medical condition.

A tragedy that deepens

The fire, which engulfed a multi-storey residential building near Palam Metro Station, has left nine family members dead, including three children, and several others injured.

As investigations continue, Sachin’s survival stands as a fragile thread of hope amid an overwhelming loss—one that he has yet to fully comprehend.
