A tragic incident in Hamirpur district claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy who lost control of his motorcycle while attempting to escape a pack of stray dogs.
The victim, Saif Ali, was riding through the Haiderganj locality in Maudaha when the incident occurred on Monday afternoon.
Chased by dogs, rider loses control
According to police, a group of stray dogs began chasing Saif as he travelled along a narrow lane. In an attempt to evade them, he reportedly accelerated his motorcycle.
However, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an electric pole, following which he was thrown forward and sustained severe head injuries.
Declared dead at hospital
Saif was rushed to a government hospital in Maudaha by family members and locals, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police officials confirmed that the sequence of events was captured on CCTV cameras, which showed the motorcycle colliding with the pole.
Family declines post-mortem
Authorities said the family chose not to opt for a post-mortem examination. The body was handed over to them, and the last rites were performed later that evening.
Community in shock
Saif, a resident of the Bhuiyanrani area, was the eldest among three siblings and the only son of his parents. His sudden death has left the family and local community in deep shock.
Concerns over stray dog menace
The incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding stray dog attacks and road safety, especially in residential areas.
Residents have called for measures to manage stray dog populations and improve safety for commuters, particularly in narrow and crowded localities.
