Sudan: Medical aid and treatment are being provided to Al-Qureshi Park’s malnourished tigers just days after pictures of the starving animals went viral, causing global outrage on social media. Since the pictures of the woefully-lean lions began circulating online, donations have been pouring in from all across the world for the rehabilitation of the animals.
The depleted condition of the lions was a result of them being fed widely infrequent meals by the staff. However, the police guards tasked with feeding them blamed the country’s economic crisis for their neglect towards the animals.
Now, wildlife enthusiasts and animal lovers have stepped in to ensure the well-being of the lions by making financial contributions to the Park. Animal welfare NGOs also sent their doctors and veterinary professionals to mete out “life-saving” treatment on the lions.
Representatives from an NGO called Four Paws, found that the lions were being kept in dismal and uninhabitable conditions at the zoo. They carried out an infusion therapy in order to rehydrate one of the malnourished lionesses (named Kandaka) at the zoo. After receiving continuous doses of “life-saving” drugs, Kandaka was reportedly able to stand up again and showed signs that she has regained her appetite.
Four Paws took to Twitter and posted several heartwarming photos that show professionals administering the treatment to the lions.
