Belgrade, Aug 23 — A devastating house fire in Novi Sad, Serbia‘s second-largest city, claimed the lives of six family members, including four young children, in the early hours of Friday morning, according to Serbia’s Interior Ministry.

The fire broke out around 3 a.m. in a residential area of Novi Sad, situated approximately 90 kilometers north of Belgrade. The blaze engulfed a small brick house, resulting in the tragic deaths of the family members, all of whom were found dead by the emergency medical team upon their arrival.

The victims include four children aged between 2 and 7 years, along with both parents. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been sparked by a charging electric scooter, though authorities are continuing their inquiry into the precise cause.

Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic indicated that initial findings point towards the electric scooter as a possible source of the fire. The investigation is ongoing as police work to confirm the identities of the victims and ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the blaze.

Photos from the scene, published by Serbian media, show the aftermath of the fire, including charred remains of household items such as a baby stroller and a washing machine. These images underline the severity of the damage and the intensity of the fire.

An emergency doctor reported that all victims were deceased when the medical team arrived, highlighting the devastating impact of the blaze.

The Interior Ministry has launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and to ensure that all safety protocols are reviewed to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The community is mourning the loss of this family, and authorities are working to provide support to those affected by this tragic event.
