Determined to present Washington DC in pristine condition, US President Donald Trump directed an urgent clean-up operation, aiming to remove tents, graffiti, and potholes before visits from prominent global leaders like Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking at the Department of Justice, Trump stressed his commitment to revitalizing the American capital. “We are restoring this great city. No more crime, no more vandalism. Graffiti is coming down, tents are being cleared, and streets will shine,” he declared firmly.
He praised Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser for swiftly executing the clean-up. “We noticed tents crowding areas near the State Department. We said, ‘Take them down immediately.’ And they did. So far, so good. We want a capital the world admires,” Trump added.
During the joint press conference at the White House, Trump greeted PM Modi warmly, emphasizing the importance of showcasing a dignified, orderly city. “I had the route checked—I didn’t want leaders from India, France, or the UK to witness squalor, graffiti, or crumbling roads,” he noted.
Vowing to make DC crime-free, Trump promised that visitors would no longer fear robberies or violence. “Soon, the capital will be safer, cleaner, better than ever—and we won’t take long to get there,” he assured.
Modi’s February 13 visit marked his first bilateral meeting with Trump since the latter’s re-election. Within weeks, Trump had hosted key figures like Netanyahu, Ishiba, and King Abdullah II, showcasing a bustling diplomatic calendar.
