Ride-hailing giant Uber has unveiled its annual Lost & Found Index, showcasing an extraordinary collection of items forgotten by passengers during rides over the past year.

The company’s 10th annual report highlights everything from everyday essentials to objects so unusual that many are struggling to imagine how they were left behind in the first place.

From live butterflies to prosthetic eyes

Among the most bizarre items reported lost were an ankle monitor, a meat slicer, breast milk, a package of live butterflies, pelvis implants, a child’s prosthetic eye and 20 pounds of duck sausage.

Other unusual belongings included partial dentures wrapped in tissue paper, blue raspberry Gushers candy, hospital discharge papers and a rhinestone-decorated photograph featuring Jesus.

According to Uber, more than one million mobile phones were reported lost during rides, making them one of the most commonly forgotten items.

New York tops the forgetful cities list

The report also revealed changing trends in passenger belongings. Popular items left behind included Labubu dolls, vapes, e-cigarettes, Crocs, gold grills, veneers and other dental accessories.

Among US cities, New York City earned the title of the most forgetful city, while Sundays were identified as the day when passengers were most likely to leave belongings behind.

A decade of strange discoveries

To mark the 10th anniversary of the index, Uber revisited some of the most unusual items reported over the years. These included a lobster in 2017, divorce papers in 2018, a salmon head in 2019 and a toy poodle in 2023.

This year’s standout item was a 75-gallon fish tank, adding another memorable entry to Uber’s growing archive of forgotten belongings.

Uber said the index has become an unexpected reflection of cultural trends and announced plans to launch an upgraded lost-and-found reporting system later this year to help passengers recover misplaced items more easily.
