In a surprising incident, a family of eight departed from a restaurant in the UK without settling their bill, which amounted to £329, roughly equivalent to ₹34,000. The situation came to the attention of the public when Bella Ciao Swansea, the restaurant in question, took to social media expressing their disappointment, stating, “To the family who departed from the restaurant this evening without settling their £329 bill, shame on you!!”

Providing further details alongside an image of the family, the restaurant explained that one of the women in the group attempted to pay using her card, but it was declined twice. She informed the staff that her son would remain at the restaurant while she retrieved another card. Shortly after, her son received a phone call and left abruptly. The restaurant posted on Facebook, “The lady attempted to pay with a savings account card which was declined twice. She then mentioned her son would stay inside while she fetched her ‘other card.’ Naturally, she did not return, and her son received a call, claiming he had to leave and departed without settling the bill.”

The restaurant also revealed that the contact number provided during the reservation turned out to be invalid, leading them to file a police report. Bella Ciao Swansea expressed their dismay, stating, “We had no means of contacting you as the number used to make the reservation was fake! Therefore, we were left with no option but to involve the authorities. This behavior is reprehensible, especially towards a newly established restaurant!”

Furthermore, CCTV footage was released showing the woman attempting to pay at the counter with one of her cards while her son stood beside her.

Since the incident was shared online, it has garnered significant attention and reactions.

Commenting on the situation, one user suggested, “Considering this trend, their photo should be displayed in every restaurant.”

Another user proposed, “All restaurants should consider implementing a pay-when-ordering policy. I wouldn’t mind.”

A supportive comment read, “£329 for the best marketing you could ask for – these individuals have inadvertently given you exposure to over 1000 people, and your restaurant appears outstanding.”

Another individual shared their similar experience, stating, “They’ve pulled the same stunt at our establishment, racking up a bill of over £600. Same story, same attempt to pay with a savings account card. They’re now banned.”

A concerned user added, “I suspect it’s the same family that previously committed a similar act at Chilli Too a few months ago. Terrible!”
