Ukraine on Tuesday publicly criticised India, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates for expressing concern over Russia’s claim that Ukrainian drones targeted the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin — an allegation Kyiv has firmly denied.

Ukraine rejects Russia’s drone attack allegation

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Moscow had failed to provide any evidence to support its claim that Ukraine launched drones at Putin’s official residence in Russia’s Novgorod region.

“Almost a day has passed and Russia still hasn’t provided any plausible evidence. And they won’t, because there is none. No such attack happened,” Sybiha wrote on X.

He added that Ukraine was “disappointed and concerned” by statements from India, Pakistan and the UAE, saying they had reacted to an incident that never occurred.

India, Pakistan and UAE express concern

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had claimed that 91 drones were launched towards Putin’s residence and were intercepted by Russian air defence systems. Following the claim, several countries issued statements condemning the alleged attack.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was “deeply concerned”, while Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif termed it a “heinous act”. The UAE also denounced what it described as an attack.

Zelenskyy calls claim ‘fabrication’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected Moscow’s version of events, accusing Russia of fabricating the claim to derail peace talks.

“Russia is using dangerous statements to undermine diplomatic efforts,” Zelenskyy said, calling the accusation a justification for further attacks on Ukraine, including Kyiv.

France backs Ukraine, peace talks strained

France appeared to support Ukraine’s position. An aide to French President Emmanuel Macron said Paris found “no solid evidence” to corroborate Russia’s accusations, even after consulting partners.

The issue has added strain to ongoing diplomatic efforts, especially after recent talks between Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida, which both sides described as making progress. Trump said Putin personally informed him of the alleged attack and warned it could affect peace negotiations.

Ukraine maintains the claim is a deliberate attempt by Moscow to weaken momentum towards ending the war.
