Washington: The US administration is set to restore partial funding to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Fox News reported on Friday.
Quoting a draft letter, Fox News reported that US President Donald Trump’s administration will “agree to pay up to what China pays in assessed contributions”.
Before they were cut off, the US was the WHO’s biggest donor. As per Fox News’s report, if the US matches China’s contribution to the organisation, the new level of funds will only be about one-tenth of the funds it used to send, which amounted to about $400 million every year.
It can be recalled that President Trump had suspended funding to the WHO for “promoting” China’s “disinformation” about the novel coronavirus outbreak. He had added that his administration would launch a review of the organisation and its ties to China.
Meanwhile, WHO has denied the claims and China has insisted that it has been transparent about its reporting of their handling of the health crisis.
