A serious case of child sexual abuse has surfaced in Nevada, where Taji Hillson, a 62-year-old former substitute physical education teacher, has been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and lewdness involving minors, including relatives and other children.

Hillson, who worked at Roy Gomm Elementary School in Reno from September 2022 to June 2025, was arrested on July 2 following a complaint by an adult female relative. The relative alleged that Hillson had drugged and abused her over many years, beginning in childhood and continuing into adulthood. The woman provided text messages in which Hillson appeared to acknowledge the abuse.

According to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Hillson faces charges including:

  • Sexual assault of a minor under 14
  • General sexual assault
  • Three counts of lewdness with a minor under 14

Investigators said Hillson admitted to engaging in inappropriate conduct with the relative and others, including several minors. She also disclosed incidents involving additional children over the years.

When questioned about her actions, Hillson told investigators she acted because she felt isolated and wanted closeness with others.

Her bail has been set at $5 million, and her next court hearing is scheduled for July 22.
