In response to writing “Jai Shri Ram” and the names of multiple cricket players, including Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, on their answer sheets, up to eighteen first-year pharmacy students at the state-run Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal (VBSP) University in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, received passing grades or more than 50% of the possible points, according to an RTI. Due to their alleged extortion of money from the students in exchange for grades, two professors were suspended as a result.

Divyanshu Singh, a former student leader at VBSP University, filed the RTI in August of last year. Using the students’ roll numbers, he requested a reassessment of the answer sheets.

Singh identified the professors as Vinay Verma and Ashish Gupta. He filed a formal complaint with an affidavit, and submitted evidence to Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel.

In December last year, the Governor ordered an investigation, after which the university set up a panel to probe the alleged discrepancies. Subsequently, an external evaluation revealed discrepancies for answers where the students were awarded 0 and 4 marks, respectively.

Vice-Chancellor Vandana Singh affirmed that the professors have been recommended for dismissal due to their involvement in the flawed evaluation process.

When the special bank copies were evaluated, the aforementioned irregularities were discovered, and the reevaluation resulted in notable changes to the students’ grades. Governor Patel will receive correspondence about the findings and take appropriate action.

Disciplinary action against the two is now scheduled. Of them, Verma has already been accused before; he was removed from administrative duties after being connected to an incident in which a cell phone containing cash was taken out of an examination.
