New Delhi: Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra has shared an AI-generated video showcasing the evolution of Mahindra’s utility vehicles, from the 1947 Willys Jeep to the futuristic Thar.e electric SUV concept.
The video, created by a fan creator identified as Torque Reborn, depicts different generations of vehicles transforming seamlessly into one another. Mahindra appreciated the tribute but pointed out that several dates and vehicle details shown in the video needed correction. He also urged the Mahindra automotive team to create its own version using more accurate information. Anand Mahindra calls for a more accurate video
In a post on X on October 13, Mahindra described the video as an interesting use of artificial intelligence and thanked its creator for the tribute.
However, he noted that some of the historical dates and vehicle details were inaccurate. He tagged the company’s automotive team and suggested that Mahindra should produce its own video documenting the brand’s automotive heritage.
The post has brought renewed attention to the company’s long history of manufacturing utility vehicles and SUVs in India.
From Willys Jeep to Bolero and Scorpio
The AI-generated animation begins with the Willys Jeep CJ-2A from 1947 before moving through several vehicles associated with Mahindra’s early years.
The sequence includes models such as the CJ-4A, CJ-500D and Commander, followed by the Bolero, which was launched in 2000. The Bolero became one of the company’s best-known utility vehicles, particularly in rural and semi-urban markets.
The video then transitions to the Scorpio, launched in 2002. The model marked an important phase in Mahindra’s development of SUVs designed for a broader passenger vehicle market.
Over the years, the Scorpio nameplate has continued through models including the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N.
XUV models mark a new phase
The video also highlights Mahindra’s move towards more modern SUVs, including the XUV500, introduced in 2011, and the XUV700.
These vehicles reflect the company’s expansion beyond traditional rugged utility vehicles into SUVs featuring more contemporary design, comfort and technology.
The transformation shown in the animation offers a visual overview of how Mahindra’s range has changed over several decades, from basic work-oriented vehicles to modern family and lifestyle SUVs.
Thar.e represents Mahindra’s electric ambitions
The final part of the video shifts towards Mahindra’s electric future. It shows the modern Thar transforming into the five-door Thar Roxx before becoming the Thar.e concept.
Mahindra unveiled the Vision Thar.e in August 2023 as an all-electric interpretation of its iconic off-road SUV. The concept was presented with a distinctive design and an electric powertrain intended to combine off-road capability with the company’s future mobility ambitions.
The video’s futuristic ending connects Mahindra’s traditional SUV identity with its plans for electric mobility. However, the animation is a creative tribute rather than an official historical record, and Anand Mahindra’s comments highlight the need to verify the dates and details of the vehicles shown.
By encouraging his team to create a more accurate version, Mahindra has turned the viral video into an opportunity to revisit the company’s automotive journey and present its heritage using verified information.
