India: Aprilia has launched the new SXR GT range in India, bringing back its maxi-scooter nameplate with updated styling, larger wheels and new hp-e engines. The range is available in two variants — the SXR GT 125 and SXR GT 175 — aimed at riders looking for a combination of urban commuting and longer-distance touring.

The SXR GT 125 is priced at Rs 1.11 lakh, while the SXR GT 175 costs Rs 1.31 lakh, with both prices being ex-showroom Delhi. Bookings have opened across Aprilia dealerships in India.

The new scooters retain the distinctive maxi-scooter-inspired design associated with the earlier SXR range but receive mechanical and equipment updates. Both models now ride on 14-inch wheels and use Aprilia’s newer hp-e engine technology.

Two engine options for different riders

The SXR GT range is available with 125cc and 175cc engines.

The SXR GT 125 uses a 124.5cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing around 10.6hp at 7,400rpm and 10.4Nm of torque at 6,200rpm. The larger SXR GT 175 gets a 174.7cc single-cylinder engine producing around 13.3hp at 7,200rpm and 14.1Nm at 6,000rpm.

Both engines use a three-valve SOHC layout with electronic fuel injection. They comply with BS6 OBD-II Stage B emission standards and are compatible with E20 petrol.

Aprilia says the hp-e engines have been developed to provide improved power delivery, torque and acceleration while retaining the usability required for regular riding.

The 175cc version is therefore positioned as the more powerful option, while the 125cc model offers the same maxi-scooter format with a smaller engine.

Maxi-scooter design gets an update

The SXR GT retains the broad, sporty proportions of the earlier SXR models.

At the front, the scooter features Aprilia’s signature Tripod LED headlamp design. The bodywork continues with a large front apron, integrated side panels and a long, touring-oriented silhouette.

The updated models also receive revised graphics and six colour options across the two variants.

The SXR GT 125 is available in Matte Black, Glossy Azzurro and Glossy White.

The SXR GT 175 gets Metallic Blue, Matte Black and Matte Green paint options, along with additional graphics and footboard detailing inspired by Aprilia’s GT range.

The overall design is intended to distinguish the SXR GT from conventional compact scooters while retaining the practicality expected from an automatic two-wheeler.

Larger 14-inch wheels

One of the major changes to the SXR GT is the move to larger 14-inch wheels.

The earlier SXR scooters used smaller 12-inch wheels, while the new SXR GT models use 14-inch wheels at both ends. The larger wheel size is intended to improve stability and ride comfort, particularly when travelling over uneven surfaces or at higher speeds.

The scooters use a telescopic front suspension and a dual-effect hydraulic rear shock absorber with five-step adjustment.

Aprilia is also offering touring-oriented accessories, including a manually adjustable windshield, crash guard, top box and perimeter kit.

These additions allow owners to configure the scooter for longer rides in addition to everyday urban use.

SXR GT 175 gets more technology

The SXR GT 175 receives a more extensive technology package than the 125cc version.

It gets a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. The system supports functions such as music and call management as well as turn-by-turn navigation.

Additional handlebar-mounted controls are also provided on the 175cc version, allowing the rider to operate connected functions more conveniently.

The SXR GT 125 uses a simpler 5-inch LCD instrument cluster.

The difference in instrumentation helps Aprilia maintain a distinction between the two variants while keeping the core maxi-scooter design and mechanical platform similar.

Braking and safety equipment

The SXR GT 175 gets a 220mm front disc brake and a 140mm rear drum brake, with single-channel ABS operating on the front wheel.

The SXR GT 125 also uses a 220mm front disc and 140mm rear drum, but relies on a combi braking system instead of ABS.

The 175cc version also receives a redesigned exhaust end pipe with an integrated heat shield.

Both scooters are equipped with LED lighting and retain the practical features associated with Aprilia’s maxi-scooter design.

Designed for urban touring

Aprilia is positioning the SXR GT as an urban-touring scooter rather than purely as a city commuter.

The larger wheels, extended bodywork, adjustable suspension and available touring accessories are intended to make the scooter suitable for longer journeys.

The maxi-scooter format also provides a more substantial riding position compared with conventional scooters, while the automatic transmission keeps the basic riding experience straightforward for urban use.

The SXR GT 175 is likely to appeal to riders who want additional performance and technology, while the 125cc version provides a more accessible entry into the range.

SXR nameplate returns to India

The launch also marks the return of the SXR nameplate after the earlier SXR 125 and SXR 160 were discontinued.

The new SXR GT models are based on the same basic platforms as Aprilia’s corresponding SR 125 and SR 175 scooters, but receive the larger maxi-scooter bodywork and additional touring-oriented equipment.

This allows Aprilia to expand its scooter portfolio without developing an entirely separate engine platform for the SXR GT range.

The new models also bring the latest hp-e engines to the maxi-scooter design, aligning the SXR GT with Aprilia’s newer scooter technology.

Prices and availability

The Aprilia SXR GT 125 is priced at Rs 1.11 lakh, while the SXR GT 175 is priced at Rs 1.31 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.

Bookings are now open at Aprilia dealerships across India. The company has not positioned the two models as direct replacements based solely on engine size; instead, the range gives buyers a choice between a smaller 125cc powertrain and the more powerful 175cc version.

The SXR GT will compete in India’s premium scooter space, where buyers have increasingly more options combining sporty styling, larger wheels and touring-oriented equipment.

Conclusion

Aprilia has launched the SXR GT 125 and SXR GT 175 in India, reviving its maxi-scooter range with updated hp-e engines, 14-inch wheels and refreshed styling. The 125cc model is priced at Rs 1.11 lakh, while the 175cc version costs Rs 1.31 lakh. With bookings open nationwide, the new SXR GT range adds another maxi-style scooter option to India’s growing premium two-wheeler market.
