Crewe: Bentley has unveiled the Torcal, its first fully electric vehicle, marking a major step in the luxury carmaker’s transition towards an electric future.

Available in standard and Torcal S versions, the new electric SUV combines a claimed WLTP range of up to 600km with an 800V charging system capable of charging the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in 16 minutes.

The Torcal also introduces a new design language, updated chassis technology, a redesigned Bentley emblem and a wider selection of sustainable interior materials.

With 888PS and 1,350Nm of torque, Bentley says the Torcal is the most powerful and highest-torque model it has produced so far.

Bentley Torcal introduces new design language

The Torcal retains several design elements associated with Bentley while introducing a new visual identity for the brand’s electric era.

Developed by Bentley’s design team in Crewe, the electric SUV features a long wheelbase, short overhangs and a distinctive front-end design dominated by an illuminated grille.

At the rear, the Torcal gets a new graphic treatment that was first previewed on the EXP 15 concept. The exterior surfaces use fewer character lines, placing greater emphasis on the vehicle’s proportions.

The Torcal will be offered with five wheel designs at launch. The standard model comes with 21-inch wheels, while the Torcal S gets 22-inch wheels as standard.

Additional 22-inch wheel options, including an aerodynamically focused design, will also be available.

The Torcal is also the first Bentley to feature the company’s redesigned emblem, which was introduced last year.

Luxury-focused Torcal interior

Inside, Bentley has retained its signature wing-inspired dashboard design while combining traditional luxury materials with new digital technology.

The cabin can be specified with leather, wool, veneer and aluminium finishes. Physical controls remain on the centre console and steering wheel alongside Bentley’s latest digital interfaces.

The Torcal’s new seats come standard with 16-way adjustment, heating, ventilation, adjustable bolsters and massage functions.

Optional comfort features include the Postural Adjust and Smart Seat Climate systems. A dedicated Wellness package further extends the massage function to the seat cushion.

The rear cabin receives particular attention, with the Torcal becoming the first Bentley to feature a power-folding rear seat.

Bentley replaces engine sound with Dynamic Symphony

Rather than attempting to replicate the sound of an internal-combustion engine, Bentley has created a dedicated audio experience for its first EV.

Called Bentley Dynamic Symphony, the system uses recordings created with musical instruments including drums, viola and bass guitar.

The sound changes according to factors such as vehicle speed and torque demand. Drivers can adjust its intensity through different drive modes or switch it off completely.

Bentley has also developed dedicated sounds for functions such as turn indicators, touchscreen inputs and the digital assistant.

For entertainment, the Torcal comes with a 16-speaker, 620W audio system as standard.

Customers can opt for a Naim audio system with 28 speakers, 1,780W output, Dolby Atmos support, seat-integrated transducers and headrest speakers.

Torcal gets 888PS and 1,350Nm

The Bentley Torcal uses a dual-motor electric powertrain producing 888PS and 1,350Nm of torque.

That output makes it Bentley’s most powerful and highest-torque vehicle to date.

The electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 2.9 seconds. Bentley says the performance has been calibrated to remain accessible for everyday driving rather than being focused solely on outright acceleration.

Power comes from two permanent magnet synchronous motors. The rear motor is paired with a locking differential and multi-plate clutch setup.

The powertrain draws energy from an 800V battery pack comprising 192 lithium-ion pouch cells.

The battery has a usable capacity of 113kWh and is backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty.

800V charging delivers 600km range

The Torcal offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 600km.

Its 800V electrical architecture also enables rapid charging. Bentley says the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 16 minutes under suitable charging conditions.

The combination of a large battery, high-voltage architecture and fast charging is intended to make the Torcal suitable for both long-distance journeys and everyday luxury-car use.

Sustainable materials expand personalisation

Sustainability is another focus of the Torcal’s interior.

Bentley has developed a 100 per cent Merino wool automotive fabric in partnership with UK textile manufacturer Fox Brothers.

The material is certified under the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) and will be available alongside leather and Dinamica upholstery choices.

New trim options include Ombre Walnut, which uses layers of walnut off-cuts and recycled paper, and Sunburst Aluminium, inspired by the metal dashboards found in historic Bentley models.

Customers will also be able to combine leather, wool, veneer, technical finishes and piano-finish elements to create highly personalised interiors.

Bentley enters the electric luxury SUV era

The Torcal marks a significant change for Bentley as the brand enters the fully electric vehicle segment.

With its combination of a 600km claimed range, 800V fast charging, 888PS output and a luxury-focused cabin, the Torcal brings Bentley’s traditional emphasis on performance and craftsmanship into an electric format.

The new model also establishes a fresh design direction for the marque, while the redesigned emblem, sustainable materials and digitally enhanced cabin underline Bentley’s broader transition towards its next generation of vehicles.
