NEW DELHI: Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is set to introduce its luxury automotive brand, Denza, in India on November 13, 2026. The debut is expected to mark BYD’s entry into a higher-priced luxury vehicle segment, with the company likely to showcase its premium electric vehicles and reveal its retail strategy for the Indian market.
Denza is expected to begin its India journey with two models: the D9 luxury multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and the Z9 GT electric shooting brake. However, the company has yet to confirm the final India-specific model line-up, prices, specifications and booking details. The November event is expected to provide greater clarity on the brand’s plans.
Denza D9 luxury MPV likely to lead India entry
The Denza D9 is expected to be among the first products introduced in India. The large, three-row electric MPV is designed for buyers seeking a premium cabin experience, including those who prefer chauffeur-driven vehicles.
The international-specification D9 measures 5,250 mm in length and has a 3,110 mm wheelbase. Its seven-seat cabin follows a 2+2+3 layout, with individual captain’s chairs in the second row.
These seats offer powered adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage functions in overseas versions. Other equipment includes three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a premium audio system and a spacious passenger compartment.
The global electric version is offered with different powertrain configurations depending on the market. The India-spec model is expected to feature a battery pack of around 103 kWh and a front-mounted electric motor producing approximately 313 hp and 360 Nm of torque.
The international model’s claimed driving range is around 520 km under the WLTP testing cycle. Actual range in India will depend on the final specification, driving conditions and certification.
The D9 is expected to be priced in the region of Rs 85 lakh to Rs 90 lakh, ex-showroom, although official pricing has not yet been announced.
Denza Z9 GT brings performance-focused electric technology
The second anticipated model is the Denza Z9 GT, a four-door shooting brake that combines the profile of a sporty estate car with an electric performance powertrain.
In its global specification, the Z9 GT is offered with a large 122.5 kWh battery and a tri-motor electric configuration. The all-wheel-drive version produces more than 1,100 hp, depending on the specification, and is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in approximately 2.7 seconds.
The model has a claimed WLTP range of around 600 km. These figures relate to the international version and should not be treated as confirmed Indian specifications.
One of the Z9 GT’s notable technologies is rear-wheel steering. This allows the rear wheels to turn in coordination with the front wheels, helping improve manoeuvrability. The vehicle also features advanced turning functions designed to make movement easier in confined spaces.
Inside, the international model offers a multi-screen dashboard, advanced driver assistance systems, premium upholstery and a high-end audio system. Powered, heated, ventilated and massaging seats are among the available comfort features.
The Z9 GT is expected to occupy a substantially higher price bracket than the D9, with industry estimates placing it between Rs 1.2 crore and Rs 1.5 crore, ex-showroom. The final Indian equipment package and price remain unconfirmed.
Denza to sit above BYD’s existing range
Denza is expected to be positioned above BYD’s current passenger vehicle portfolio in India. BYD already sells models such as the Atto 3, Seal and Sealion 7 in the country, while Denza will target customers looking for more premium vehicles and additional luxury features.
The brand was established in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Daimler, now known as Mercedes-Benz Group. Mercedes-Benz subsequently exited the venture, and Denza became fully owned by BYD in 2024.
The marque has expanded across several international markets, including China, Southeast Asia, Australia, Europe and Latin America. Its portfolio includes luxury electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid models.
The Indian debut will provide an opportunity for BYD to establish Denza as a distinct premium brand rather than simply extending its existing range into a higher price category.
Separate retail strategy expected
Along with introducing its first vehicles, Denza is expected to outline how it will sell and service its products in India. Reports suggest that the brand may adopt a separate retail experience to distinguish itself from BYD’s existing dealerships.
The company has not yet confirmed the locations of its showrooms, the initial cities it will serve or its after-sales service arrangements. These details will be important for buyers considering vehicles at the expected price points.
The initial models are also expected to be imported as completely built units. If confirmed, this would allow the brand to introduce its vehicles without immediately establishing local manufacturing. The company has not announced a long-term localisation plan.
Luxury EV market set for another entrant
The anticipated arrival of Denza comes as India’s premium electric vehicle market develops, with manufacturers introducing more expensive electric SUVs, MPVs and performance-oriented models.
The D9 is expected to compete with luxury people-movers such as the MG M9 and appeal to buyers considering vehicles including the Toyota Vellfire and Lexus LM. The Z9 GT, meanwhile, would offer a different body style from the conventional luxury SUVs and sedans commonly found in India.
For now, the November 13 event is the key milestone. Official prices, bookings, delivery timelines, India-specific specifications and the final launch line-up will determine how Denza’s products are positioned against established luxury brands.
