Mahindra Bolero Set for a Bold Transformation with New Platform, EV Variant in Sight
Mahindra & Mahindra has revealed ambitious plans for the next five years, with a strong focus on innovation and expansion. A major highlight is the introduction of a new New Flexible Architecture (NFA) platform, set to power several upcoming models—including a fully overhauled version of the iconic Bolero SUV.
The Bolero, one of India’s most trusted utility vehicles since its launch in 2000, is set for its first major update in over two decades. Traditionally based on a ladder-frame chassis, the next-gen Bolero is expected to transition to a monocoque construction using the NFA platform. This change hints at improved ride quality, handling, and overall refinement—marking a leap from its rugged, utilitarian roots.
Mahindra has confirmed that the NFA platform will debut on August 15, likely as a concept model. It could preview the revamped Bolero, which may retain its boxy identity while incorporating modern styling, upgraded interiors, and significantly better safety features. Mahindra aims to fix long-standing criticisms from urban buyers about outdated equipment and poor crash safety—especially after the Bolero Neo earned a dismal 1-star Global NCAP rating.
The NFA’s flexible design will also support petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric powertrains. This makes way for an electric Bolero, codenamed U171, which could debut in 2025 or 2026. The Bolero range—SUVs, pickups, and campers—currently contributes nearly 20% of Mahindra’s total sales, with 8,000–9,000 units sold monthly.
