New Delhi: Renault India has confirmed that the updated Kwid facelift will be launched on July 3, bringing a refreshed design and several feature additions to the popular entry-level hatchback.
While the company has not officially revealed all details ahead of the launch, spy photographs and industry reports suggest that the facelift will focus on cosmetic updates and improved features, while retaining the existing powertrain.
Fresh design inspired by Dacia Spring
The updated Kwid is expected to borrow several styling cues from the Dacia Spring, Renault’s global budget electric vehicle.
One of the most noticeable changes is likely to be the introduction of Y-shaped LED daytime running lamps, a design element already seen on the latest Renault Duster and other Renault models globally.
The rear of the hatchback is also expected to feature Y-shaped tail lamps, giving the car a more contemporary appearance. Additionally, Renault is likely to introduce redesigned front and rear bumpers and a new set of alloy-style wheels.
However, the main headlamp units are expected to continue with halogen lighting rather than switching to full LED headlamps.
Cabin to receive major upgrades
The interior is expected to receive more substantial updates than the exterior.
The current infotainment system is likely to be replaced by a larger touchscreen unit, aligning the Kwid with evolving customer expectations in the entry-level hatchback segment.
Other anticipated changes include a redesigned steering wheel, a revised instrument cluster and a refreshed cabin theme.
Renault is also expected to strengthen the safety package of the updated hatchback. Industry reports indicate that the facelift could be offered with six airbags, a significant upgrade over the current model and an important addition in view of the increasing focus on vehicle safety.
No mechanical changes expected
Mechanically, the Kwid facelift is expected to remain unchanged.
The hatchback will likely continue to be powered by the existing 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 67 bhp.
Transmission options are expected to remain the same, with buyers getting a choice between a five-speed manual gearbox and a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).
Expected pricing
The current Renault Kwid is priced between ₹4.30 lakh and ₹5.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
The facelifted version is expected to command a modest premium over the outgoing model when official prices are announced on July 3.
With its refreshed styling, updated features and improved safety package, Renault is aiming to strengthen the Kwid’s appeal in the highly competitive entry-level hatchback segment.
