New Delhi: Triumph Motorcycles is preparing to expand its 400cc motorcycle range in India with the upcoming Bonneville 400, which is expected to launch before Diwali 2026. The new modern-classic roadster will be locally manufactured by Bajaj Auto at its Pune facility and is expected to bring the iconic Bonneville design language to a smaller-capacity motorcycle.
The Bonneville 400 will join Triumph’s growing range of motorcycles developed in partnership with Bajaj Auto. While the company has not announced an official launch date or price yet, current reports indicate that the motorcycle is being positioned for the festive season and could arrive in India ahead of Diwali.
Triumph Bonneville 400 launch timeline
Triumph is expected to launch the Bonneville 400 in India before Diwali 2026. Earlier reports had indicated a festive-season launch, with the motorcycle expected to arrive during the fourth quarter of 2026.
The upcoming motorcycle has already been spotted testing in India, giving a clearer indication of its design and hardware. Triumph is expected to reveal the exact launch date, pricing and variant details closer to the market introduction.
The India-spec model will be manufactured locally by Bajaj Auto at its Pune plant, following the same manufacturing partnership that underpins Triumph’s existing small-capacity motorcycles in the country.
Classic Bonneville-inspired design
The biggest highlight of the Bonneville 400 will be its retro roadster styling.
Unlike the more contemporary appearance of the Speed 400, the new motorcycle is expected to feature a design inspired by Triumph’s larger Bonneville family. Test motorcycles have been seen with a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, rounded side panels, large mudguards and a peashooter-style exhaust.
The motorcycle will also feature a flat bench-style seat, wire-spoke wheels and twin rear shock absorbers. Conventional telescopic front forks are expected to replace the upside-down units seen on the Speed 400, further reinforcing its traditional roadster character.
Chrome detailing and a circular headlamp are also expected to form part of the classic design package.
The overall styling is intended to give the Bonneville 400 a more traditional appearance while retaining modern motorcycle technology underneath.
349cc engine expected for India
The India-spec Triumph Bonneville 400 is expected to use a 349cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine.
According to the latest NDTV Auto report, the engine is expected to produce around 36.5 bhp and 32 Nm, with power sent through a six-speed gearbox. These figures are based on the output of Triumph’s relevant 400cc family of motorcycles and may be subject to final confirmation for the Bonneville 400.
Earlier reports had indicated that the India-spec motorcycle would use a smaller 349cc engine, while the export-spec model could use a larger 398cc unit. The move to a sub-350cc engine is linked to the positioning of Triumph’s India range following changes in the country’s tax structure for motorcycles.
Triumph could also retune the engine to suit the Bonneville’s more relaxed roadster character.
Performance compared with Classic 350 and CB350
With the expected 36.5 bhp output, the Bonneville 400 would have a higher claimed power figure than several established motorcycles in the segment.
For reference, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 produces 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm, while the Honda CB350 develops around 21 bhp and 29.5 Nm. The figures reported for the Bonneville 400 are therefore considerably higher, although the final India-spec specifications will need to be confirmed by Triumph.
The motorcycle is nevertheless expected to focus on a relaxed riding experience rather than being positioned solely as a performance-oriented model.
Bonneville 400 expected price
Triumph has not announced the official price of the Bonneville 400.
The latest NDTV Auto report expects the motorcycle to be priced in the range of ₹2.3 lakh to ₹2.6 lakh, ex-showroom. Other automotive sources have published different estimates, so the final price should be treated as unconfirmed until Triumph makes an official announcement.
The pricing will be important because the Bonneville 400 is expected to compete for buyers considering motorcycles such as the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Honda CB350.
Its premium positioning could place it above some conventional 350cc motorcycles while offering a combination of Triumph branding, liquid-cooled performance and classic styling.
