Yokohama’s BluEarth-GT AE51 tyres have delivered a positive initial impression after covering 1,500 kilometres on an Audi A4, offering reassuring grip and familiar ride comfort, with slightly increased road noise as the main drawback.

The tyres were fitted after the Audi A4 had covered around 40,000 kilometres on its original equipment manufacturer (OEM) tyres. The early assessment focuses on everyday driving, highway stability, comfort and fuel efficiency.

Improved confidence on the road

The most noticeable change has been the renewed confidence while driving, particularly at highway speeds. The tyres feel reassuring in everyday conditions, although the improvement cannot be attributed entirely to the AE51 because they replaced an ageing set of original tyres.

The BluEarth-GT AE51 is a grand-touring tyre designed to balance grip, handling stability, comfort and efficiency. Its asymmetric tread pattern, triple centre ribs and specially designed grooves aim to support stable handling and water evacuation on wet roads.

However, the initial experience is not a controlled comparison between two new tyre sets.

Ride comfort remains consistent

The AE51 has maintained ride comfort close to what the Audi A4 delivered with its original tyres when they were in good condition. The tyres have also performed comfortably over potholes and uneven road surfaces.

This balance is important for a premium sedan used for daily commuting as well as longer highway journeys. The initial experience suggests that the change has not required a significant compromise in comfort to achieve reassuring grip.

Slightly higher road noise

The main drawback noticed during the first 1,500 kilometres is a slight increase in road noise compared with the previous OEM tyres.

While the noise is not considered a deal-breaker, it may matter to drivers who prioritise a particularly quiet cabin. As the previous tyres had already covered around 40,000 kilometres, the comparison should be treated as an initial personal observation rather than a definitive assessment of the AE51 against other new tyres.

No noticeable fuel efficiency improvement

Despite the BluEarth range’s focus on efficiency and reducing rolling resistance, the initial test has not shown a noticeable improvement in fuel economy.

Fuel efficiency has remained broadly unchanged during both city driving and highway runs. The experience does not establish whether the tyres will deliver any long-term efficiency benefits, and further driving would be needed to assess their performance over time.

Verdict after 1,500 kilometres

The Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51 has made a promising start on the Audi A4, with reassuring grip, stable highway driving and ride comfort close to the car’s familiar standards. Slightly higher road noise is the main compromise, while fuel efficiency has remained unchanged.

Long-term durability, tread wear and performance over several thousand additional kilometres remain to be assessed. For now, the early experience is positive, but it is too soon to draw firm conclusions about the tyres’ long-term performance.
