Ramanagar: Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy warned of an intense protest if steps are not taken to prevent Ramanagar district from falling into clutches of COVID-19 pandemic.
Ramanagar district, which did not register even a single COVID-19 case and was placed in Green Zone, suddenly slipped into Red Zone after two inmates in Ramanagar jail were tested positive on Thursday late night.
These two were accused in Padarayanapura violence, who were shifted into Ramanagar prison along with several other accused.
Irked by the decision of the government to shift the Padarayanapura accused into Ramanagar jail, even earlier, HDK had warned that the government will be held responsible if the pandemic broke out in the jail after the accused, who hail from the COVID-19 affected area are shifted into the jail.
He said that the government must now quarantine entire jail, including higher-ups to cooking and cleaning staff deputed in the jail and steps must be taken to shift the Ramanagar prison inmates into separate place.
HDK also blamed ADGP (Prison) Alok Mohan for the shifting of Pdarayanapura violence accused into Ramanagar prison.
“I had tried to draw attention of government related to transfer of Padarayanapura miscreants to Ramanagaram prison. But due to government ignorance, Covid-19 has now entered the district. Two accused have tested positive and about 7-8 people shifted to quarantine centres,” he said demanding shifting of the accused out of Ramanagar prison.
HD Kumaraswamy and his wife Anitha are MLAs from Ramanagara district. While HDK represents Chennapatna, Anitha represents Ramanagara in the state Assembly.
It may be recalled that scores of people from COVID-19-hit Padarayanapura were shifted into the jail after they attacked police and frontline health workers who came to the area to pick secondary contacts of COVID positive person.
