TIRUVALLUR, TAMIL NADU: A 23-year-old man, identified as M Karuna, was arrested under the POCSO Act by Tiruvallur police after a 15-year-old girl, reportedly in a relationship with him, delivered a child and abandoned the newborn near the Tiruttani Government Hospital.

The incident came to light on June 11, when members of the public found the infant girl and handed her over to the authorities. The baby was later admitted to an orphanage for care and protection.

Following this, the Tiruttani All Women Police Station registered a case and began investigations. They traced the case back to a Class 10 student at a government school. During questioning, the girl revealed that she had delivered the baby in a hospital restroom and left the child behind out of fear.

A deeper probe confirmed that the girl had been in a relationship with the accused, who was later taken into custody on Saturday. He was booked under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and has been remanded in judicial custody following his appearance before a magistrate.

Authorities have stated that the minor is now receiving counselling and support to help her recover from the traumatic experience. Social welfare officials are also monitoring the situation closely.
