With monsoon showers breathing life into rivers and forests, Belagavi’s famous waterfalls—Gokak, Godachinamalki, and Chikhale—are witnessing a massive surge in visitors. In response, authorities have stepped up police presence and safety measures at all major spots.
To cater to the growing footfall, the North-West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) will soon introduce special monsoon bus packages. “We will launch dedicated buses to these waterfalls shortly,” said Rajesh Huddar, NWKRTC’s Belagavi divisional controller.

Gokak Falls: Located 62km from Belagavi, this 170-foot-high waterfall is famed for its thunderous plunge and a 170m suspension bridge. Though the bridge was briefly closed for repairs, the state government is now planning South India’s first cable car here, along with boating and amusement facilities. The action plan is in its final stages, confirmed district minister Satish Jarkiholi.
Godachinamalki Falls (Markandeya Falls): Just 51km from Belagavi and 10km from Gokak, it offers scenic tiered cascades that plunge 100ft into a gorge—perfect for nature photography and weekend getaways.
Chikhale Falls: Nestled 45km from the city in Kanakumbi forest, it was reopened by the forest department on June 11 following public demand. It’s a rising star among adventure lovers.
Tourists are also heading to Amboli Falls, Kavalesaad, and Baba waterfalls across the border in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, just 71km away.
