Bengaluru: In a heartwarming initiative to provide permanent homes for rescued native dogs, the Bengaluru East City Corporation has launched the ‘Adopt Me – Second Innings’ campaign. The adoption drive aims to rehabilitate injured and abandoned dogs by connecting them with compassionate families.
The adoption programme will be held at Nexus Shantiniketan Mall, Whitefield, at 3 pm on Saturday, Commissioner D S Ramesh announced.
Over 30 rescued dogs await loving homes
More than 30 Indian native (‘desi’) dogs rescued after road accidents or abandoned by their owners will be available for adoption during the event.
“Every adoption is a compassionate step towards giving a voiceless animal a new lease of life,” Ramesh said, urging residents to come forward and support the initiative.
Citizens interested in adopting a pet can directly take home a rescued dog after completing the necessary formalities.
Support even if you cannot adopt
The civic body has also invited animal lovers who may not be in a position to adopt a pet to contribute by sponsoring a dog’s food, medical treatment and daily care.
Officials said every adopted dog will receive three essential health services free of cost, including:
- Anti-rabies vaccination
- 7-in-1 (DHPPIL) vaccination
- Tick-and-flea treatment
The DHPPIL vaccine protects dogs against several infectious diseases, including distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, parainfluenza and leptospirosis.
Awareness sessions on responsible pet care
Alongside the adoption drive, the corporation will organise public awareness sessions on responsible pet ownership, animal healthcare and rabies prevention.
A special programme has also been planned for Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Apartment Owners’ Associations (AOAs). The sessions will focus on animal welfare laws, scientific and humane management of community dogs, rabies prevention, responsibilities of residential communities and promoting peaceful coexistence between humans and stray dogs.
The initiative reflects the city’s growing emphasis on animal welfare while encouraging citizens to provide rescued animals with the care, dignity and affection they deserve.
