Bengaluru: A vigilant ambulance driver thwarted an attempt by four men to covertly transport the body of a 36-year-old construction worker they had allegedly killed.

The arrested accused have been identified as Ramkaran, Shivaji, Obala Reddy, and Rama Mohana Reddy. The victim, Chintu Sah, a migrant labourer from Bihar and resident of Kaggadasapura, was reportedly assaulted and killed by co-workers Ramkaran and Shivaji on Tuesday around 4 PM, following a dispute over ₹300 Chintu had borrowed.

After the incident, they alerted their mason, Obala Reddy, and the building owner, Rama Mohana Reddy. The four allegedly spent the night devising a plan to hide the crime. By Wednesday morning, Obala Reddy called Chintu’s brother, Mahadev Kumar, who lives near KR Market, claiming Chintu was in critical condition and asked him to come to KR Puram Government Hospital.

Upon arrival, Mahadev was told his brother had died—but no explanation was given. The group then coerced him into transporting the body to Bihar using a hired ambulance. However, the ambulance driver noticed visible injuries on the body and refused to proceed without a postmortem, promptly notifying authorities.

The culprits fled the scene, but police soon arrived, secured the body for autopsy, and registered Mahadev’s complaint.

Police confirmed Ramkaran and Shivaji were responsible for the murder, while the mason and building owner face charges for attempting to conceal the crime. The body was handed over to the family after autopsy and final rites were completed.
