Bengaluru: A shocking video from Bengaluru has gone viral on social media, showing a young boy leaning out of a moving SUV’s sunroof and getting struck by an overhead barrier. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, has raised serious concerns about road safety and parental negligence.

Incident details

The clip, shared on X with the caption “Next time when you leave your kids popping their heads out, think once again!”, shows a red SUV driving along a busy road. The child is seen enjoying the ride while standing through the sunroof. As the vehicle moves forward, the boy continues leaning out and is suddenly hit hard on the head by an overhead barrier.

At the end of the video, the car continues moving while the child quickly ducks back inside. It remains unclear if the boy sustained injuries, and HT.com has not independently verified the incident.

Public reaction

The video has triggered outrage online, with many users criticizing the adults in the vehicle for allowing such dangerous behaviour.

One user wrote,

“Omg..horrible. Poor child. Hope the child is safe. Parents are fully responsible for this accident. Not sure why these sunroof features are provided in India. It needs to be banned.”

Another added,

“The poor child…. hope he is not badly hurt. Just terrible that parents don’t realise how dangerous it is to let them stick their head out of a car.”

A third user warned,

“This should be a warning to all those who drive like this, with their children’s or friends heads popping out. Look out!!”

Many online commenters emphasized parental responsibility and the need to prevent such risky behaviour.

Safety concerns

Experts say that allowing children to stick their heads out of sunroofs or car windows exposes them to serious injuries from barriers, signboards, tree branches, or collisions. Road safety authorities have urged parents to always ensure children are seated and wearing seat belts while travelling in vehicles
