The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Bengaluru police has arrested six individuals, including four known rowdies, for allegedly abducting a realtor and extorting Rs 2.96 lakh, officials said on Tuesday.
The arrested have been identified as:
- Rajesh Kumar alias Appi and JD Mara Appi, 32
- Srinivas alias Bombay Seena, 43
- Naveen, 35
- Lokesh alias Loki, 34
- Somaiah, 31
- Yukesh, 28
Except for Naveen and Yukesh, the others are rowdy-sheeters linked to various Bengaluru police stations.
Details of the crime
Police stated that the victim, Manoj Kumar, had lent Rs 1.2 lakh to film director Nanda Kishore through Rajesh. After a year, when Manoj demanded repayment, Rajesh allegedly plotted the kidnapping after learning that Manoj had made substantial money in real estate.
An officer explained:
“Manoj asked for the loan amount. But Rajesh learnt that Manoj had earned a lot of money recently. So, Rajesh planned to kidnap Manoj and demand ransom.”
On August 26, Rajesh lured Manoj to Modi Hospital Road under the pretext of returning the loan. He was abducted along with the others, driven across Nelamangala, Dobbaspet, and other locations, and kept hostage in a lodge.
The suspects allegedly threatened him and forced Manoj to transfer Rs 2.96 lakh. They also demanded another Rs 10 lakh, which was not paid. After contacting his family, Manoj approached the police and filed a complaint.
Legal action
The CCB has registered a case against the six accused under charges of kidnapping and extortion. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are determining whether the group was involved in other similar crimes.
