Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Bengaluru City Railway Station has commissioned a state-of-the-art Video Surveillance System (VSS) integrated with Facial Recognition Software (FRS) to enhance railway security and passenger safety.
Railway officials said the advanced surveillance system became operational on Wednesday as part of efforts to modernise security infrastructure at one of South India’s busiest railway stations.
Facial recognition linked to criminal database
According to officials, the Facial Recognition Software has been integrated with a database containing records of 1,086 criminals to strengthen identification and monitoring of suspicious individuals at the station.
Security personnel will now be able to monitor passenger movement and station activities continuously through a centralised surveillance system.
Authorities said the system covers the entire railway station, including entrances, exits, booking counters, reservation halls, concourses, platforms, subways, foot overbridges, waiting halls, and circulating areas.
168 high-definition cameras installed
As part of the project, railway authorities installed 168 IP-based high-definition CCTV cameras designed according to standards specified by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO).
Officials stated that the upgraded surveillance network is expected to improve incident response and overall monitoring efficiency.
A large 20-foot by 9-foot video wall has also been commissioned at the monitoring centre to assist personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) with real-time surveillance operations.
Focus on passenger safety
Railway authorities described the project as a major step towards strengthening security infrastructure and improving passenger safety at Bengaluru’s central railway hub.
The centralised monitoring arrangement is expected to help security teams detect suspicious activity more quickly and respond to emergencies in a coordinated manner
