In a bold step to combat drug abuse and trafficking, Bengaluru North Division police carried out surprise late-night raids across 13 police jurisdictions on the night between Saturday and Sunday. The operation marked the city’s renewed focus on prosecuting drug users—something not actively pursued for nearly two years.
Led by DCP (North) Babasab Nemagoud, the coordinated effort covered areas such as Yeshwantpur, RMC Yard, Jalahalli, Rajajinagar, JC Nagar, and Hebbal. Teams comprising ACPs, 13 inspectors, and their staff combed through 106 houses linked to known drug peddlers and anti-social elements.
During the searches, 1.6 kg of ganja and 150 grams of hashish oil were recovered from homes in RT Nagar and Sanjay Nagar. Two FIRs were registered. In RT Nagar, brothers Athiq Hussen (35) and Idris Hussen (30) were caught with ganja and remanded to judicial custody. In Sanjay Nagar, habitual offender Manoj Kumar (29) was arrested from a shed after evading police for months. He admitted to sourcing hashish oil from Odisha, and officials are now probing his supplier network.
Eleven individuals tested positive for drug use during the operation and have also been charged. Officials said suspects with pending warrants or skipped court dates were warned and had their details updated.
“This drive uniquely targeted narcotics and will serve as a template for other divisions,” a senior officer stated.
