Bengaluru: A 25-year-old gym trainer died after sustaining a serious head injury during a fight at a gym anniversary party held at an apartment complex in Sahakar Nagar in northern Bengaluru on Saturday night, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Nandan, a gym trainer. Amruthahalli police have detained four of his friends for questioning and have registered a murder case based on a complaint filed by Nandan’s mother.

Argument at gym anniversary party turns violent

According to the preliminary investigation, a party had been organised in a flat on the 16th floor of an apartment complex to mark the anniversary of a gym.

During the celebrations, Nandan reportedly got into an argument with Vishwanath over a trivial issue. Police said the disagreement began after Nandan objected to being referred to as Vishwanath’s disciple.

The verbal altercation subsequently escalated into a physical fight.

Police suspect that the confrontation took place inside the bathroom of the flat. During the fight, Nandan allegedly suffered a serious head injury after being struck by a sharp glass object.

The injury reportedly resulted in heavy bleeding.

Nandan allegedly left without immediate medical attention

Police said the circumstances surrounding the period immediately after the injury are a key part of the investigation.

According to the preliminary findings, Nandan was not immediately taken to a hospital or provided with appropriate medical attention. He reportedly continued to bleed for several hours before being shifted to a private hospital.

Doctors at the hospital examined him but declared him dead.

A senior officer from the Amruthahalli police station said the preliminary investigation indicated that Nandan might have survived if he had received immediate medical attention after sustaining the injury.

The police are now examining the exact sequence of events between the time Nandan was injured and when he was eventually taken to hospital.

Mother files murder complaint

Following Nandan’s death, his mother approached the police and filed a complaint. Based on the complaint, Amruthahalli police registered a murder case and detained four suspects for further questioning.

The detained individuals are reportedly friends of Nandan and were present during the party.

Police are questioning them to determine who was involved in the physical altercation, who caused Nandan’s injury and what happened after he was hurt.

Investigators are also trying to establish whether there was any intention to cause serious harm and whether the delay in seeking medical assistance contributed to his death.

Family unaware of seriousness of injury

Nandan’s family members said they were informed about the incident only after police contacted them and asked them to come to the hospital.

They said they had not been aware that Nandan had suffered a serious injury during the party.

A relative, Prasanna, described Nandan as a responsible young man and said the family was struggling to understand how the incident had occurred.

“He had no bad habits and was a responsible youngster. He used to keep us informed about everything he did, even when he bought a shirt. He was our only son and we cannot understand why this happened to him,” Prasanna said.

The family is now seeking clarity on what happened during the party and the circumstances that led to Nandan’s death.

CCTV footage and witness statements being examined

Police are examining CCTV footage from the apartment complex as part of the investigation. Statements of people who attended the gym anniversary party are also being recorded.

Investigators are particularly trying to establish how the argument between Nandan and Vishwanath began, how it escalated into a physical confrontation and who was present when Nandan sustained the fatal injury.

The police are also examining the actions of those who were present after Nandan was injured, including the circumstances surrounding the alleged delay in taking him to hospital.

The post-mortem examination and other forensic findings are expected to provide further information about the nature of the injury and the cause of death.

For now, police have detained four people for questioning as they piece together the events at the apartment party. The investigation will determine the individual responsibility of those involved and whether further arrests are required.

The incident has also raised questions about the importance of providing immediate medical attention when someone suffers a serious injury. As the investigation continues, police are relying on CCTV footage, witness accounts and forensic evidence to establish the circumstances that led to the young gym trainer’s death.
