Bengaluru: A head constable attached to Madiwala traffic police was suspended after he allegedly assaulted a two-wheeler rider stopped for riding against one-way traffic near Silk Board Junction on October 13, 2025. The officer has been identified as Mallikarjuna Teli.

Incident details

The traffic drive began around 11 am, following oral instructions from senior officials to monitor motorists riding against one-way regulations. Around 1 pm, Teli, assisting an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), stopped the rider, identified as Nitesh from Kerala, and asked him to pay the fine.

An argument ensued, with Nitesh questioning the authority of the traffic personnel, citing instructions that vehicles should not be stopped for spot fines. During the confrontation, Teli allegedly slapped Nitesh twice, despite the rider wearing a helmet. The ASI then instructed to record the argument and involve Hoysala police for law-and-order follow-up. The incident was captured by the pillion rider on mobile, and parts of the video were later uploaded on social media.

Official response

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-South) Gopal M Byakod confirmed the suspension of Teli and said officials are reviewing body-worn camera footage to ascertain the facts. A senior officer noted that Nitesh claimed to be a YouTuber and that the uploaded video appeared to be edited.

Nitesh was issued a Rs 500 fine for riding against one-way traffic, and a case was registered against him.
