Bengaluru: In an unusual incident that has amused netizens, a city resident was fined ₹1,000 after civic marshals traced a stray garbage bag back to him using an old delivery parcel. The bizarre case, which unfolded earlier this week, has since become a hot topic on Reddit.

According to reports, a stray garbage bag was found dumped outside the man’s residence. When BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) marshals checked the bag, they discovered an old parcel tucked inside, addressed to the man’s girlfriend. Using the parcel as evidence, officials promptly fined the resident ₹1,000 for improper waste disposal.

The episode sparked widespread amusement online. A Reddit post narrating the story quickly gained traction, with many likening it to a scene from a sitcom. Users shared light-hearted comments about how carelessly discarded packaging had come back to “haunt” the resident.

One user quipped, “Imagine being caught by your own Swiggy or Amazon label. Bengaluru never disappoints.” Another commented that the man should “thank the marshals for not charging a detective fee along with the fine.”

The civic body has recently intensified efforts to curb littering and enforce waste management rules. BBMP marshals have been carrying out checks across the city, slapping fines on violators found dumping waste in public spaces.

Officials said the unusual discovery in this case highlights how even small lapses — like tossing out a parcel wrapper with personal details — can lead to enforcement action.

While the incident left social media in splits, it also underscores the city’s growing push for better waste management. For Bengaluru residents, the message is clear: dispose of garbage responsibly, or risk both a fine and online fame.
