Bengaluru: A 14-year-old boy’s complaint against his mother has led to a police case after he accused her of assaulting him and causing severe injuries when he tried to intervene in a fight between his parents. The incident occurred on September 25 at the family’s residence in Avalahally.

Case registered under JJ Act and BNS

Based on the teenager’s complaint, Avalahally police registered a case under the Juvenile Justice Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) against his mother. Police have also issued a notice summoning the woman to appear before the investigating officer for further action.

Boy’s statement from hospital

The Class IX student, who is undergoing treatment at Dr Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital, told police that the assault took place around 8:30 pm on September 25. He said he was studying in his room with his younger brother when his parents began arguing. Disturbed by the noise, he asked them to stop fighting. When he raised his voice, his mother allegedly became enraged, pushed him forcefully, and injured his left hand.

The boy further alleged that his mother hit him multiple times with slippers, scratched his chest and back, and later attempted to attack him with a small knife. His father reportedly intervened, stopped the assault, and rushed him to the hospital.

Previous incident cited

According to the boy, this was not the first instance of violence. He claimed that his mother had also assaulted him on September 23, for which he was treated at the same hospital’s outpatient department.

Police statement

A senior police officer said preliminary inquiries suggest that the couple has ongoing disputes, and the boy appears to have sided with his father. “We will interrogate the mother and record the boy’s statement again. We will then know the exact reason. The mother and the boy will be counselled,” the officer said.

Next steps

Authorities have emphasised that both the minor and the mother will undergo counselling as part of the investigation, while further legal action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
