BENGALURU: In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old woman was allegedly harassed and robbed at a women’s paying guest (PG) accommodation in Bengaluru’s Gangotri Circle. The accused, who remains unidentified, broke into the facility during the early hours of Friday, police said.
Intruder entered at 3 am
According to police, the man, wearing a mask, entered the PG around 3 am. Before committing the offence, he allegedly locked all the rooms on the floor from outside and then gained entry into one of them, where the woman was asleep.
The intruder allegedly touched her inappropriately while she was sleeping. When she resisted, he reportedly threatened her with a knife, scratched her legs with his nails, and assaulted her.
Cash stolen from cupboard
The accused then took ₹2,500 in cash from the woman’s cupboard before fleeing the spot.
Following the incident, the woman immediately approached the Suddaguntepalya police station and lodged a complaint. Based on her statement, a case has been registered for trespassing, sexual harassment, assault, and theft, NDTV reported.
Police investigation underway
Police said they have retrieved CCTV footage that shows the man entering the PG while wearing a mask. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the accused.
Authorities have assured residents of increased patrolling and security measures in the area to prevent similar incidents.
